… and other musings. Sharing tips on home organization, cooking, and design – Publishing my original songs – Publishing a new custom church song book called "Cherished Hymns"

New Frontier

After so many years of almost nonstop work – between homeschooling my 5 kids, working either full or part time, volunteering for many organizations, and many other projects squeezed in between, I’m really facing a brand new frontier unlike anything I imagined. I thought I would work full time for another 7 or 8 years while my husband is still working for a living, but a series of events lead me to this path of being home. I’m creating my own workflow in between only a few obligations, and becoming a “keeper at home” in a whole new way.

Since I have this enormous need to be busy, I have decided to make my new “job” sharing household organization tips, posting some of my inspirational musings, working on a new compilation of hymns for my church, and publishing my original songs on my YouTube channel.

My first tip from my website to your home is something I learned as a young woman trying to figure out how to stay on top of everything I was responsible for. I asked a wise woman who had raised 6 girls and was a great example of hospitality. This is what she told me:

“First thing in the morning, get your butlers going!”

I had no idea what she was talking about, so of course I asked. She explained we have so many modern day conveniences that save so much time from the old days when everyone had to everything by hand. Start your dishwasher, get going on one load of laundry, start the coffee maker, and even get dinner going in the crock pot if you want! Get the idea? It was brilliant. Another thing I learned at some point was to never let my laundry loads stack up unfolded. It only takes 5-10 minutes to fold a load of laundry. You can stack the piles according to what area of your home they need to be put away, and avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed by a huge mound of laundry that is all wrinkled and still needs to be folded. Then every time you pass by the piles you just pick up a few things and get them put away on your way out the door, to the other room, etc. Trust me, it really makes a daunting task into something very manageable in your everyday life!

About Me

Thinking about the line from Karen Carpenter’s song, “…don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear…” I have been inspired to “just sing” (and write, and share).

I produced a weekly blog for a little over a year, but now I’m committed to one article a month. I hope to give a little inspiration to those passing by, either through my blog articles or within the other pages I’ve created here.
