TURKEY (& Special Dinners)

My middle daughter and her husband were here over the weekend, visiting from Tennessee. She is going to make Thanksgiving dinner for his folks next week, and so she asked me about how I make my turkey. When it’s something I only do once a year, there is no way I can remember!

A couple of years ago, Ray made a video of us in the process of brining and preparing our turkey. I told Kara to watch the video, because that’s what I’m going to do!

Here is the link to our 11 minute video: How to Prepare a Turkey

Also, I’m really glad I have taken good notes for special dinners like Thanksgiving and Christmas through the years. Last night, I was looking through my cookbook binders, and stumbled upon my section on Thanksgiving dinners. (See this blog post: BETTER Than A Recipe Box?)I had completely forgotten about a breakthrough I had in making the gravy last year! (This is what I mean about not remembering year to year, because I’ve had lots of stressful gravy moments on Thanksgiving day.)

If I didn’t have that note for myself, I would probably make some of the same mistakes as before.

I even have a couple of pages of table setting and tips I’ve collected that I can just pull out of my binder for one of my guests to refer to as they are helping.

I started saving the menus and notes I created for Thanksgiving dinners in 2014. In 2015, I decided to write a “recipe” for how I make my herbed turkey so I could remember when it came around to November again. Now I have a collection of almost 10 years of notes, menu iterations, and new ideas! I’ve posted a picture of my herbed turkey recipe on my “Rechelle’s Recipes For Family Gathering” page in case you’d like to check it out:

Now that I’ve written this article, I’m getting excited about the preparation for our special dinner next week!

About Me

Thinking about the line from Karen Carpenter’s song, “…don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear…” I have been inspired to “just sing” (and write, and share).

I produced a weekly blog for a little over a year, but now I’m committed to one article a month. I hope to give a little inspiration to those passing by, either through my blog articles or within the other pages I’ve created here.
