Dreams Coming True

Realizing a dream is still a journey, and the steps rarely resemble the idea of it.

Over 20 years ago, I wrote my first song. I shared it with my closest friends with trepidation. I sang it in church with a shaky voice and then kept it locked away for some time. I wondered if it was just a sort of, one-off thing in my life – to write a song. After all, my time was consumed with being a homemaker and homeschooling 4 kids.

After having our 5th child and lots of busy-ness in life later, I realized I had written many songs. I started to feel the desire to get them recorded in some way with the thought that several of the songs could be great if someone else “performed” them. In the summer of 2009, I joined a home recording group called soundclick.com and started learning more about how to create audio recordings of my work with multiple tracks. I was so insecure about my singing, piano playing, and identity that I created a logo and name that I could use to represent my music without identifying me as a person. I took a picture of a chair at a restaurant in Laguna Beach, California and used a digital spray paint tool on it to create “LifeLyrics.”

It took almost 20 years for me to feel like the work I do in my music is a talent that I have, like my organizational skills, cooking, and heart of a teacher. I’m almost 60 years old, and I’m finally ok with sharing my music as just another part of giving what I can while I have time on this earth! Retiring early from the public sector and creating this website as my “dream job” has enabled me to start to realize another dream I’ve had in such an unexpected way.

I just published the fifth page of my website, which is a milestone that completes my original objectives of the things I wanted to share here. All of my pages are linked at the top or on a sidebar of the website, depending on your the device you are using to read my weekly blog. I hope you’ll take a few moments to take a look around!

About Me

Thinking about the line from Karen Carpenter’s song, “…don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear…” I have been inspired to “just sing” (and write, and share).

I produced a weekly blog for a little over a year, but now I’m committed to one article a month. I hope to give a little inspiration to those passing by, either through my blog articles or within the other pages I’ve created here.
